Member Benefit: Corporate Training and Leadership Programs at YMCA of Western Ontario

We are pleased to offer Tech Alliance members a 20% discount on our standard corporate training fees of $105 plus HST, bringing the partner cost down to $84 per person plus HST.  This fee includes expert facilitation, customization of program to suit the client’s desired goals and take-aways, all equipment and materials and up to 6 hours of dynamic programming.  If they wish, a catered lunch from Nooner’s can be easily arranged for an additional $13 per person, no tax. Alternately, groups are welcome to bring their own bagged lunches from home if they wish. The choice is up to them!

The YMCA of Western Ontario’s Spencer Lodge Leadership Centre is a highly recognized provider of powerful leadership development and teambuilding experiences for business, not-for-profit, private and government organizations, running an average of 2000 adult clients through programs annually.

Conveniently located in London on the grounds of the Richard Ivey School of Business and the adjacent Scouts Canada property at 531 Windermere Road, the Outdoor Leadership Centre works in collaboration with their clients to design programs that will help enhance team performance and highlight leadership development.

Customized full-day programs allow your group to build bridges between individuals and divisions, and enhance leadership effectiveness.   Regardless of age, weight or physical strength, the Outdoor Leadership Centre provides an ideal setting for corporate groups to explore new challenges and enhance creativity, collaboration and connection.

The YMCA’s safety and risk-management protocols exceed industry standards in adventure-based education.  All of our programs ensure that the ‘risk’ is more perceived than it is real.  Highly trained YMCA Instructors closely supervise participants in all activities, and ensure that safety is the number one priority.  Our aerial (high ropes) and low ropes courses are designed, built and maintained by Challenges Unlimited International, a Level IV Professional Vendor Member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology.

An intentional continuum of activities builds a sequence of successes and ensures logical and enjoyable program flow throughout the day.

All teams, regardless of size, age or background, will experience program elements geared toward specific, measurable goals and will focus on:

  • Goal-setting and achievement
  • Creating high-functioning teams
  • Successfully navigating change
  • Breaking down barriers to communication
  • Building Bridges between individuals and departments
  • Deepening personal confidence
  • Developing positive group climate and renewing team energy
  • Celebration of team identity

The “Challenge By Choice” philosophy assures that no one is ever forced or pressured into participating in an activity that makes them deeply uncomfortable or fearful. Each person, no matter his or her age, ability or level of athletic ability, will be honoured and cared for safely, and emerge from the day triumphant and deeply connected with his or her team.

Program Offerings:

Small Groups (6-10 participants, minimum 6)

For small groups, there is opportunity for extensive work in collaboration, problem-solving and goal-setting.  Cooperative activities build the foundation of the day, that taps into the small group’s abilities to think out-of-the-box thinking, work together creatively and build trust. Participants will move through a day that enhances teaming behaviours, celebrates the development and achievement of articulated goals and successfully overcoming obstacles. Low rope activities build on the progression of successes, with partnered and whole-group high rope elements forming the pinnacle of the day.

Medium Groups (11-50 participants)

Medium groups are often (not always) comprised of different departments, divisions or nested teams within an agency, organization or business.  Focusing on building bridges between those potentially silo’d groups, the day brings initiative challenges, communication puzzles and teambuilding activities specifically designed to enhance inter-department empathy and to encourage creative leadership. Low and high ropes with a specific focus on creating a deep sense of team wellness and shared vision are the highlights of the day.

Large Groups (50-120 participants)

Large groups have the advantage of enjoying a high range of program options on two high ropes courses. YMCA staff weave in the client’s company’s themes, trends and values into each exercise and activity order to lend continuity and thematic value to the day.  Large groups move through rotations of powerful activities designed to enhance team-wellness, foster leadership development and focus on compassionate communication. Cooperative activities and initiatives set the tone for the day as the team quickly moves through dynamic low and high rope activities, with a strong focus on “transfer” – how participation will lead to positive change in the workplace.

The YMCA of Western Ontario at Spencer Lodge has a baseline booking fee of $750 (before HST) for any group, regardless of size, in order to offset the cost of staffing and equipment use.  For instance, a group of six will be billed that baseline fee plus taxes, rather than the per person fee which would not meet the required fee recovery.
