The Green Boom

Going green has seeped into every aspect of our lives, there are few day to day tasks that we complete that do not somehow involve the going green mantra. A few short years ago concepts such as environmentally friendly cars, canvas shopping bags and sustainable business practices seemed to be a lifestyle choice for only a small number of people rather than the masses.  Now a large portion of the population flock to an eco friendly life complete with solar panels, recycled furniture and hybrid cars. The eco friendly lifestyle has boomed into our culture, the business world and our personal lives.

Analysts have quoted Ontario as the sleep giant for renewable energy, for those of us in Southwestern Ontario, leveraging these resources is possible right from our own backyard.  It appears that a GO GREEN movement has taken off! Not only has this made us think twice about our consumption of items such as plastic water bottles and shopping bags, issues such as global warming, and as awareness is raised how we are affected locally. An increased focus on this sector has also led to strengthening of our communities and job creation. Canasia, a Canadian company that specializes in the development of major power plants, announced earlier this week that they have chosen London, Ontario for their newest manufacturing technology plant that will create up to 500 jobs.   As I look back over how I have adapted and changed my lifestyle over the past few years to go green I wonder what the next five years will hold for the green way of life. If we as a community and culture have adapted and embraced the “go green” mantra how green will we go? It’s interesting to ponder what it will be like in the next few years as who would have predicted that in such a sort period of time our commercialized culture would have come this far.
