Are you up to the challenge?

The Manager, Software Development is responsible for the leadership of the development team across all delivery units. You are focused on providing expert knowledge of software development processes and serves as a subject matter expert to leadership in this area. You will collaborate with the Project and Technology Managers to oversee the design and build stages of development.  You will also work closely with the Director, Software Development as well as with the functional leaders from QA, Solutions Analysis, Architecture and Technology Operations to build and implement quality technology solutions and processes.

Key Responsibilities include:

People Management

• Leadership and development of software development staff onsite and remotely
• Resource management, including performance management, recruiting and retention and staff development
• Manage cross-functional relationships across projects
• Involved with managing vendor relationships and procurement activities
• In conjunction with the Director, Software Development, Technical Managers and Team Leads write performance reviews for all Developers
• Drafts and/or participates in creating service agreement contracts with vendors

Process Improvement

• Define, implement and  enforce development standards and methodologies
• Actively participates in continuous improvement by contributing suggested practices, processes, lessons learned, etc.
• Ensure adherence to development and configuration standards and processes
• Accountable for improving product quality through code reviews and unit test practices

Software Analysis and Consultation

• Contributes to creation of development estimates, development plans and design documents
• Maintain project schedule, manage and sign-off on all development activities
• Contribute to the evaluation of product usability
• Provides development oversight, metrics tracking, issue resolution
• Participate in build vs. buy analysis & marketplace studies

Successful candidates will be…

• Experienced in the high tech industry and hands on development, 10+ years of combined demonstrated management experience
• Established and have a track record of turning around projects and delivering them as planned
• A university degree graduate  in Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and/or other related fields
• Strongly knowledgeable of Enterprise technologies, utilizing commercial products based on .Net and Java technologies
• Strong in technical skills including, programming, designing, systems development methodology, testing
• Extremely knowledgeable in application development life cycle, including requirements definition, system design and testing / QA and transition to production
• Strong in understanding of software design patterns and methodology
• Knowledgeable of configuration management practices and procedures
• A demonstrated expert in the ability to analyze data, develop quantitative metrics and reporting
• Proven in the ability to effectively manage the software development process
• Excellent in interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• A team player with the ability to self-motivate and motivate others
• Demonstrated in the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Proven in creative problem solving skills
